Top Gardens to visit in Northumberland

As summer is coming to an end, there is still time to get some summer activities in before the weather gets to cold. Here at Warkworth House Hotel, one of our favourite parts of this season has to be the amazing colours created by all the blossoming trees and flowers.

This makes it the perfect time of year to go and explore some gardens that will leave long lasting summer memories. Northumberland is renowned for its array of special gardens that all offer something special in their own way.

Northumberland Garden

Here is a list of Warkworth House Hotel’s favourite gardens that you should visit this summer.

Alnwick Garden

Alnwick Gardens SummerAs far as we’re concerned Alnwick Garden is an absolute must see attraction in Northumberland. The gardens on show here are really beautiful containing a plethora of different plants that will interest even the most cultured of connoisseurs.

The gardens are accompanied by some thrilling water features that offer something a little different for the kids. Make sure you bring a towel as there’s a good chance you or the kids will be cooling off in style.

Not only can you see beautiful gardens at Alnwick Garden’s but there is also events taking place all year round and this summer there has been will be full of exciting things to take part in. Once you’ve finished exploring the gardens you have the wonderful chance to head over to the treehouse which has some really cool rocky bridges.

Alnwick Garden’s also offers something unique in the form of its Poison Garden. Here you will be given a tour of a garden that is full of deadly and dangerous plants. There is no other garden that offer the chance to learn about deadly plants as well as beautiful ones in Northumberland.

Howick Hall Gardens

Howick Hall GardensHowick Hall Gardens are the perfect place to enjoy some delightful plants in a tranquil environment that is like no other.

If you’re a lover of your plants then Howick Hall gardens will really make you feel at home as there are so many. The variety is vast and ever changing with the seasons so there’s always something fresh and exciting to see.

There are many different gardens on site for you to sink your teeth into including a woodland garden which was started in 1930 by Lord Earl Grey. You can also explore the woodland walks and snowdrop walks which offer a different range of plants to see.

There is also wildlife present at Howick Hall Gardens as it is one of the few places that is home to the rare Red Squirrel. Keep your eyes peeled and you might see one of these special creatures.

Belsay Hall Gardens

Belsay GardensThe castle and gardens at Belsay Hall are another great place to appreciate some seriously beautiful nature. The gardens here are the perfect setting for the picturesque castle that attracts so many.

Like the other two gardens that we love there are lots of different little gardens here that come together to make a really tranquil and pleasant place to admire some exotic and rare trees and flowers.

Take a trip into a fairytale with the unique Quarry Garden which will remind you of something from The Secret Garden.

Belsay Hall are celebrating the Year of the English Garden which means that for the rest of this summer there will be an array of garden themed events for the whole family to get involved in.
