Things to do

There are an array of activities to take part in at Woodhorn Museum such as the fantastic Coal Town experience where you can get a inside look at what it was like to be a part of the mining industry that was so big in the North of the country. Crawl into the tight spaces and see the conditions that so many men were subject to not so long into the past.

Take a look at the Ashington Group’s brilliant collection of work. There are over 80 paintings which are very popular and anyone who appreciates art will be sure to love this area of the museum.

Many of the original pit buildings remain standing here and you can pay a visit to them all to give you a great idea of how things worked and what type of work was being done. The kids will love the stable block which has been the home of over 200 pit ponies over the years.

Upcoming Events

Woodhorn Museum also has some special exhibitions that come and go all year round so there is always something fresh and interesting to see. If you’re free on the 25th September then I would recommend that you get down to Woodhorn Museum to see Thank Folk it’s Friday which will blow you away.

The grounds at Woodhorn are beautiful and they really go well with the history on offer here in this beautiful part of Northumberland. If you are visiting don’t forget to check out the shop and purchase some cool souvenirs.

If you want a pleasant little getaway this year come to Warkworth House Hotel and you will have the stunning and exciting county of Northumberland at your fingertips and there will never be a dull moment.
