Cycling is something that is becoming more and more popular in the UK and around the world. The government see cycling as a great way for the nation to get into shape, reducing the amount of obesity, and also a great way to ease traffic and pollution. A lot of cities around Europe have introduced bicycles in city centres that people can rent for a period of time to encourage people not to bring their cars to work.
People of the UK have also been egged on by the success of the British riders in big racing events, such as The Tour De France and the Olympics. The Virgin Money Cyclone is here to make sure everyone can be part of the huge cycling craze that has swept the country. This is a three day cycling event that all are welcome to and in the cyclone challenge there are three separate events so that everyone is riding within their capabilities.
The Cyclone Challenge is one of the best cycling events in the world for non-competitive riders to smash a personal goal and test their fitness against some impressive riders. To ensure that everyone is racing within their capabilities there are three races to choose from. The first is for families and those who wish to enjoy the stunning scenery of Northumberland. This ride is 34 miles long which means it will still be a challenge but you can take your time and enjoy your surroundings.
The next ride is 64 miles long and this one is for the semi serious riders who want to push themselves that little bit further than they usually do and this route experiences more inclines but does have a few feed stations to reenergise.
The final ride is 106 miles long and this one is for the experienced riders who fitness is extremely good. There are eight significant hills on this route but I’m sure the scenery will spur you on.
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a cycling champion you can also enter the Beaumont Trophy Event which has been won by many famous names over the years including Sir Bradley Wiggins in 2009 and 2011. Just watching this event will be a special experience for the whole family.
Northumberland has been specially chosen for these cycling events due to the fantastic quiet roads and incredible scenery. Northumberland is one of the most beautiful places in England for its nature and history and what better way to take all this in than on a bike ride through all of the picturesque villages and countryside.
If you’re coming to Northumberland to be part of this popular cycling event or if you just want to observe some great cycling on (hopefully) a sunny day then why not come and stay for the weekend in Warkworth House Hotel where you can enjoy a luxury stay in the heart of this delightful county.
