Rothbury Traditional Music Festival

If you fancy a weekend packed full of exciting music, dance and a whole load of Northumberland heritage then you need to get down to Northumberland this weekend for the Rothbury Traditional Music Festival taking place from the 17th – 19th of July. A trip to Northumberland this weekend will a guaranteed blast where you can watch some amazing acts, get involved in the local atmosphere and even enter one of the competitions to show off your skills.

What’s on?

This brilliant festival has been around for almost forty years now and each year it draws in more and more musicians, singers and spectators from all over the country who enjoy the local occasion. The idea of the festival is to celebrate the heritage of Northumberland and teach the youth and visitors about the culture, the dialect and the songs.

This is a great event where people from all over can come together to enjoy the music and dancing on offer and share in the good times. This year there is an exciting array of talent on offer at the festival with some very popular acts that are renowned in these parts as well as some up and coming acts who look to impress on their festival debuts.

As well as the amazing music on show there will also be examples of Northumberland dialect in the form of poetry which can be enjoyed by all. There is also a few competitions this year due the popularity in the competitions last year so you or your child will have the opportunity to show off your skills in your chosen field.

One aspect of the festival that is new to 2015 is that there will be a literary fest which will showcase local authors and poets. You can see Jon Tait launch his new book Barearsed Boy as well as four other authors discussing their marvellous work. Don’t worry if you missed this fantastic festival this year, next year will no doubt be bigger and better.
