The Ride Place to Stay

Yorkshire has been abuzz with life over the Tour De France, but did you know that Seahouses has long been known as a beautiful and picturesque place to be enjoyed in a number of ways by a number of different people from all walks of life, however, it is also one of the best places to enjoy a wonderful days cycling. And what could be better than combining a charity bike ride into your Northumberland holiday?

Bike Ride in Northumberland

Seahouses is a short distance from Warkworth, and plays host to the Great North Bike Ride, which is held on Sunday the 24th of August. The ride costs £25 to enter to cover the running costs, and sponsorship is encouraged as all monies raised go to benefit the Chris Lucas Trust, which supports children and young adults suffering from Cancer. The entry fee also entitles you to a cycling top, medal and refreshments.

The ride itself will take you through an estimate 60 miles of beautiful coastline, departing Seahouses at 9am, you can expect to take in some of the most spectacular sights the region has to offer as you make your way south down past Warkworth which is the halfway point (and up the famous incline that most cyclists have to walk up!), through Amble, Ashington, Blyth and Whitley Bay to the final destination of the historic Tynemouth Priory (and maybe a celebratory fish and chip lunch at one of the award winning fryers nearby!)

For those who may feel 60 miles is too long, you are welcome to join at any point along the route, and being the halfway point, perhaps you may choose to start early and ride the route from Seahouses tourist information centre car park back to your comfy room here at Warkworth House Hotel, or maybe you would choose to enjoy a leisurely breakfast with us before setting off from the Warkworth entry point as the procession passes? We are ideally placed for any level of rider to enjoy both their stay with us and their time in the saddle.

With being an ideal base for a variety of other sporting and leisure options, why not make the Great North Bike Ride part of your holiday, and join us for an extended stay so that you can go back and revisit some of the wonderful Northumberland landmarks you will encounter as you enjoy your fundraising cycle along the coast?
