Bamburgh: A great day out

The summer is almost upon us and that makes it the perfect time to start planning a few days out in Northumberland where there is so much to see and do. One of the best places to visit in Northumberland this summer has to be Bamburgh for its incredible beauty, rich history and plethora of activities on offer. Here are just a few of the amazing things you can do in Bamburgh.

One thing that Northumberland as a county is not lacking in is a vast and fascinating history and one of the many castles that has seen its fair share of bloody battles and extravagant design is Bamburgh Castle which sits on a throne of a hill overlooking the divine coastline.

Venture inside and see how the kings and queens of the past would have lived and learn all about the rich history on a tour around the huge castle. If the walls could talk the tales would be endless in a place that has seen so much.

Once you’ve seen all the amazing rooms inside you can enjoy a picnic on the vast land that surrounds the castle and enjoy the view from the outside.

Bamburgh is situated on the beautiful coastline of Northumberland and this beach in particular is very special. The sands are delightful and the kids will adore the sand dunes that they can roll down and run up for hours of fun. If they weather permits it, be sure to take a towel as there is nothing more refreshing than the Northern Sea and don’t forget that this long stretch of beach is dog friendly!


For any golf lovers out there you won’t find many courses with views as good as those at Bamburgh golf course. You play on a course close to the beach which offers spectacular views of the coastline as well as the castle that dominated the skyline.

The course itself offers a nice challenge and the tranquillity of the scenery gives you the perfect experience for a round of golf.

The fascinating story of Grace Darling all began in the small town of Bamburgh and you can learn all about it in the Grace Darling Museum that attracts thousands of visitors each year who want to learn more of the immense bravery show by the girl who saved nine people in a boat accident.
